Dr. Hanna believes that medical care should not be limited to the wealthy few.  Every attempt has been made to make our program affordable.  Fees charged are a fraction of what they may be in comparable clinics, around the nation.

Due to the fact that care is delivered in an intense, painstaking, one on one fashion, visits are longer than is customary in other practices.  This has made it necessary for the clinic to function outside of the health insurance framework.  Instead, patients are provided with the data necessary for them to recover a certain proportion of the payments they made, depending upon their individual policy.

Most importantly, you, the prospective patient, should see this as an investment in your life, because you will have a new life, safely and permanently.

The Structure of Appointments:
All appointment are one-on-one with myself.  The first session – the analysis of headache history – is ninety minutes.  The second ninety-minute session is the physical exam session; and the session when treatment begins. Follow-up appointments vary between 30 minutes, the shortest, and an hour.   

How the Program Works:
Due to the fact that my patients’ headaches are highly complex, are often intractable, and at times presenting on a “24 hour x 7day” basis, with secondary deterioration of quality of life; my first encounter with my patient has to be empathetic and caring.  This first encounter has two goals.  The first is to get to know them, learn about their lives, their family situation, their stresses, their challenges, and how their headaches have disrupted their daily functioning.  The second goal is to place their headache in a specific, singular class.  This is crucial, as it has significant ramifications regarding treatment.

Classifying a headache is the most important burden falling on the headache specialist’s shoulders.  This is accomplished by learning how the headache behaves, both at present and at initial onset.  (This may be years ago.)  This can take place only through a detailed and painstaking history-taking process.  For example, if a headache began in childhood, the evolution of the headache over time must be learned.  Then, and only then, can the nature of the headache be understood.  Questions I ask may seem insignificant or trivial to the patient.  In many cases, it is the “unnecessary” question which clinches the diagnosis for a given patient.

Once the headache classification has been determined, a set of options can be presented, and the pros and cons of each.  This process is usually time-consuming and the ninety minute consultation passes very fast.  For complex histories, two hours or more are sometimes needed.

By necessity, the physical exam and medication prescription occur in a second visit.  At times, some patients find this disappointing.  I can understand that and sympathize.  However, this approach allows treatments to be based on a reasoned, analytical, and well-thought-out process, as opposed to random trial and error, which usually leads to failure.

WELL WORTH THE MONEY!  Headache Free for the New Year!

Dr. Salwa Hanna, M.D. helped me when I was about to give up hope.  I thought I had tried everything, I felt like I would live the rest of my life with horrible head pain.  I started having headaches at a very young age and I was referred from one doctor to another.  I saw many neurologists and I went to other doctors that called themselves headache specialists, none of them ever took the time to listen; instead they pushed a bunch of medications at me or suggested unnecessary and expensive procedures.  Not only did they not help, these things caused other problems that I have to live with now!  Then I found out about Dr. Hanna from a friend.  Although Dr. Hanna does not take insurance, the cost is very well worth it.  I called other doctors in Colorado and throughout the country and I found that Dr. Hanna’s charges are much below the cost of other clinics for at least twice the amount of time.  I have never met a doctor that was so kind and caring.  My only regret is that I didn’t find her sooner.  I am so excited that I am starting off the New Year feeling great!

EXCELLENT DOCTOR... A LIFE SAVER!

I have suffered from headaches most of my adult life. I was misdiagnosed with cluster headaches and spent several years seeing several neurologists, on several different meds and the headaches got worse. By the time I found Dr. Hanna I had become chronic daily with severe migraines. Dr. Hanna promised me that within six months, she could make me headache-free. From one who was suffering daily, that seemed impossible. But in six months, Dr. Hanna delivered and I was headache-free. Dr. Hanna has taught me patience, determination and motivation with regards to my headaches, but the lessons learned while in her care are applied to my everyday life. Dr. Hanna's care has given me a new lease on life and a new appreciation that each day headache-free is a gift. I would highly recommend her to anyone I know. There isn't another doctor I have ever met that spends such concentrated time with her patients. She is completely devoted to her patients, to medicine and to finding a cure.

SALWA HANNA, MD - AN AMAZING DOCTOR WHO REALLY CARES

I recommend Dr. Salwa Hanna without reservation to anyone who suffers from headaches of any kind. Her cures are exceeded only by her caring. Before seeing Dr. Hanna nearly 12 years ago, I suffered from daily headaches and regular, severe migraines for more than 45 years and had no hope that they would ever be lessened. I took between 3 and 12 Excedrin daily (never fewer than 3 each day) and felt good enough to work maybe 60% of the time. I worked sick and missed out on a lot of family time due to headaches. Within a few months of seeing Dr. Hanna, I was able to stop taking Excedrin and was able to work more than a normal work day without nagging headaches. I also turned into a parent and friend who felt well enough to participate in activities that I used to avoid because of headaches. From the start Dr. Hanna went to great lengths to understand me, my life with migraines, and my daily habits. Thanks to her guidance and prescriptive recommendations, I live with at least 80% fewer headaches, and they rarely are severe. Dr. Hanna absolutely changed my life for the better, and I am exceedingly grateful. My advice to others who suffer from migraines and have lost hope for finding a remedy ... see Salwa Hanna at your earliest opportunity and expect great relief. Lots of Excedrin, Imitrex, rebound migraines, and working sick. Within months of seeing Dr. Hanna 10 yrs. ago, I got better & better with a routine that worked for me as she accurately diagnosed my personal migraines. The pharmaceuticals are low dose & over time some were excluded. Dr. Hanna so carefully monitors my overall health and needs. Why have I seen her for so long? Life changes and it can influence our health. My husband was diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimer’s and with all of the complicated business and extreme stress my migraines were very bad. Dr. Hanna again took the time to re-evaluate. She is direct to mention and remind me of what I cannot eat or drink and how to keep myself healthy. The migraines are again under control. Dr. Hanna is the BEST choice for migraine sufferers. I have struggled with migraines since the late 70's. Most of that time I thought I was having sinus problems. It has been such a blessing finding Dr. Hanna. With her kind and committed help my headaches have significantly reduced in frequency and intensity. I was so happy a year and a half ago to throw away all the Imitrex I had stockpiled. I had no idea it was causing me rebound headaches until I became a patient of Dr. Hanna. I have never had a doctor that cares so much for me and personally calls me to see how I am. HER METHODS WORKED WHEN OTHER DOCTOR'S DIDN'T - HELPED A TEEN WITH HEADACHES

Before Dr. Hanna I had been to an ENT, thinking my headaches were sinus related. I then went to Children's hospital pain clinic and went to Colorado's top neurologist's who couldn't help me. I had all but given up finding the root cause to my headaches. The waiting list for headache doctors were months in length, while Dr. Hanna saw me right away. Her methods have enabled me to lead a more normal life, graduating high school and now attending college. Dr. Hanna makes sure that every part in your life will be able to make you better. She listens to questions and concerns and will take the time to make sure you understand it. She will always explain things even if time is short. I highly recommend her!

TERRIFIC DOCTOR - WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE

I first went to Dr. Hanna 15 years ago when I was having daily migraines. I was unable to adequately do my job or fulfill commitments. She is very knowledgeable and simply outstanding. She got to the cause of my headaches and prescribed a treatment plan that has resulted in my having no severe headaches. I had already consulted several doctors over a period of about 10 years. They did prescribe painkillers. However, they were unable to figure out the cause of my headaches and basically gave me enough painkillers to get me dependent on the painkillers. I was having daily rebound headaches. Dr. Hanna was wonderful, thoughtful and caring. She gave me back my life, which at that point was pretty marginal. She was so thoughtful, that when I had to go on a business trip, she gave me her home phone number and encouraged me to call at any time of the day or night if I got into trouble with a bad migraine. I did indeed use her home phone one time when I was on a business trip. I arrived at my destination late on a Sunday evening. I was so sick with a migraine that I was nauseous and vomiting. Others would have told me to call 911 or go to an emergency room. But, I called Dr. Hanna at home and she was so kind and patient and helped me figure out what to do to get through that awful episode as quickly as possible. Her rates are very reasonable. Other so-called headache specialists had treatment plans that I had to sign up for in advance that cost hundreds and even several thousand dollars. Over the years I have found that Dr, Hanna’s philosophy is that she wants to keep her rates very reasonable so people who need treatment can and will be able to get it. I could not have asked for a better or more knowledgeable doctor. They just don’t get any better than Dr. Hanna. Wonderful is the only word to describe her.

A GREAT DOCTOR!

Finally a physician that listens and actually cares! Dr. Hanna and her staff are very pleasant. After many years of suffering from horrible daily headaches, I am finally headache free! Thanks to Dr. Hanna I now enjoy my life more than ever. I have never had a doctor take the time that she does to listen and work with me to find the treatment best suited for me and my type of headache.
