About Dr. Hanna
Dr. Hanna has devoted the last twenty-two years to headache prevention; thereby changing many headache sufferers lives. Her special interest in headaches began during the fourth year of her residency training at The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, during her rotation in pain rehabilitation clinic, where the focus was on dealing with disabling, severe, chronic pain. “Pain Clinic” stressed the importance of teaching patients how to cope with chronic pain; how to develop successful strategies to deal with it. This was (still is), very significant; but, in the context of chronic headaches, a physician can go beyond that. A physician can prevent chronic headaches, altogether. This was extremely exciting; especially as Dr. Hanna witnessed the restoration of high quality life to many headache sufferers. This was especially gratifying. So, this was when the decision was made that this would become her career; her life devotion. This wonderful career began in 1985, and continues to this day; preventing patients headaches, all together!
Dr. Hanna is married. When not treating patients she enjoys spending time with her husband, travel, the outdoors, reading and giving talks.
Her clinic has treated thousands of patients over the years, with great success. Her work is never boring. Although, the mission is the same i.e. headache prevention, each patient presents a unique scenario, bringing a new opportunity, a new challenge.
Dr. Hanna earned her BA undergraduate degree at The Colorado College, in Colorado Springs. She finished in 1973 graduating Magna Cum Laude, majoring in Chemistry. Dr. Hanna then pursued her graduate education in Biochemistry and Biophysics at The University of California, Davis. Subsequently, she received her Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1978, Cum Laude. She pursued higher education in Great Britain, with a focus on pulmonary and hepatic disease. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine in 1980. She then worked at The Veterans Administration Hospital in Denver, Colorado in the department of disability determinations. It was there that she became interested in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as her specialty. She pursued her residency at The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and this was completed in 1984.
In January 1985, she established The Headache Clinic of Denver, where she has continued to practice to the present time; having headache prevention as her goal.
Dr. Hanna has been highly successful in headache prevention using a comprehensive approach to complex, intractable (difficult to treat) headaches; often when prior attempts have failed.
Her analytical skills, one on one bonds with her patients where therapeutic alliances are formed, very careful attention to the dynamics of each individual patient, all contribute to end the suffering of many, so that they can again lead happy lives.
